This Lubricating Oil HTHS Dynamic Viscosity Tester This instrument employs a multi-capillary viscometer equipped with pressure-measuring, temperature-measuring, and timing devices to determine the high-temperature high-shear (HTHS) apparent viscosity of engine oils under the conditions of 150°C and a wall apparent shear rate of 1.4 × 106s-1.
Using the shear rate specified in this standard can reduce the differences between this method and other test methods for determining high-temperature high-shear apparent viscosity.
Viscosity is measured directly via a calibration curve established using Newtonian oils with apparent viscosities ranging from 2 mPa·s to 5 mPa·s at 150°C.
